Explore Athens

Sightsee Historical Sites & Ancient Ruins

You can't visit Athens without seeing all its historic beauty! The Bride and Groom have listed their recommendations of historical sites that deserve a visit - be sure to follow up with your hotel concierge on best booking practices. A few sites, such as the Acropolis, should be booked far in advance.

The Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum

For any first time Greece goers, be sure to not miss out on the Acropolis! Tickets are now timed, be sure to book in advance. There are many sites that carry Acropolis tickets, please check in with your hotel concierge in advance to assist with bookings. Another great stop is the Acropolis Museum, which holds all the ancient artifacts found onsite. For tickets, either reach out to your concierge or visit https://www.theacropolismuseum.gr/en/

The Ancient Agora

A large area with ancient ruins and much greenery, the Ancient Agora was the center of Athens in antiquity, the place where political gatherings and juries would take place. Be sure to also check out the Temple of Hephaestus, located at the northwest side of the Ancient Agora.

Panathenaic Stadium

The ancient olympic stadium is a huge historical monument of Athens, and also quite impressive built only out of marble.

Mount Lycabettus

Head up to Mount Lycabettus for a birds eye view of Athens!

Syntagma Square / Parliament

Syntagma Square is the center of Athens, and also where Parliament is located. Here you can see the changing of the Greek guards, Evzones, and the monument of the unknown soldier. The most significant changing of the guard is every Sunday at 11:00am.

Eat, Drink & Shop!

Brettos

Located within the small streets of Plaka you’ll find Brettos, the oldest distillery in Athens. It started operating for the first time back in 1909 at the ground level of an Athenian old mansion in the heart of Plaka. If you haven't tried the greek native liquor ouzo, there is no better place for a taste!

Psarras Taverna

The Bride & Grooms favorite “traditional” taverna in Plaka! A perfect spot for a long lunch after a morning shopping the streets. Psarras website.

Anefani Taverna

Another fan favorite taverna of the Bride & Grooms. Check our Anefani for dinner and ask to sit on the rooftop terrace where you'll be eating under the parthenon and stars. Anefani website.

Kuzina

If you head to Kuzina, be sure to ask for a reservation for the Tarazza, where you will have breathtaking view to Acropolis and Hephaestus temple. Kuzina offers a moden twist on traditional greek dishes and is a newer spot in town! Kuzina Website.

Relax & Rewind

There will be plenty of opportunities for guests to see Greece’s beautiful beaches if you are continuing on to the islands after the wedding. For guests in town for a long weekend, we highly recommend spending a day in the Athens Riviera to relax and rewind at one of its organized Beaches. Vouliagmeni is a gorgeous beachside town that offers a reprieve from city life with its clear blue waters and delicious greek tavernas. If you decide to drive the entire coastline from Glyfada to Cape Sounion, you’ll see organized Athens beaches as well as secluded coves to enjoy a day in the sun.
